Wedding Quilt

My friend Anna is getting married next summer, and that means that I'm making her and Morgan a wedding quilt. With my levels of procrastination, I need to start working on it *now.* I have the first step out of the way- picking colors, fabrics, and a pattern. They'll be receiving a queen sized Take 5 quilt in browns, blues and yellows.

Rag Quilts

As a nanny to 3 children, I thought that the kiddos needed a homemade gift for Christmas. Rag quilts seemed like a perfect idea.

Clever Wrapping

My brother likes to buy cheap book at the thrift store. He then hollows them out and stores things inside. He gives me all of the pages. =)

I wrapped a shoebox with the pages, tied string around it, and added a crocheted snowflake. Easy and cute!

Stripy Blanket

I crocheted this afghan for a Christmas gift. I used red heart acrylic yarn, and it washes really well.

Using Your Flower

For my mom's birthday, I made her a card with a crocheted flower on it. First, I put paper onto the card. (I used wrapping paper for this actually.) Then, I sewed a button onto the middle of the card.
Then, I slipped the flower onto the button. The flower is detachable this way, so the receiver of the card can use it for something else, but the card is adorable too.

Mom liked the flower so much, that she wanted to wear it. I used hot glue to glue the button onto a pin. After it dried, I slipped the flower on. The flower is still detachable, so you could change the color of flower depending on your outfit.

More Than Just Pictures.

Picture frames don't always have to have pictures in them.

You can print out Bible Verses, or favorite quotes.

You can even embellish scrapbook paper with pretty stickers. They look nice, and are a lot cheaper to make than they are to buy!

Creative Birthday Gifts

My best friend turned 16 this week. I wanted to give her some special, fun stuff for her birthday, so here is what I whipped up!

• A quick and cute card
•A super easy wrap skirt, in her favorite color, (and mine!) lime green!
•bright yellow flip-flops (she collects flip-flops) that I crocheted around to make a bit more special
•and an uncut key. With smiley faces all over it. For when she gets a car. Hey, I had to do something silly...=)

And to top it all off, I put it in an adorable gift bag, shaped like flip-flops!

Fringing A Scarf

Fringing a scarf can really change its whole appearance. Here's how you do it:

You will need a scarf, (knitted or crocheted) a ruler, scissors, a needle with a large eye, and yarn.

Depending on the length that you want the fringe to be, you can cut pieces of yarn at different lengths. I cut my pieces at 9 inches for medium length fringe.

Fold your yarn in half and thread the folded part through the needle.

Slip your needle through one of the whole in the bottom of the scarf.


Bring the bottom pieces of the thread up through the loop on the scarf.


Tighten the yarn.
Your fringe will most likely be uneven. To fix this, you can line the fringe up at the edge up a table, place a ruler on top to keep it steady, and cut away the uneven pieces.

And you are done fringing! Sorry that the pictures didn't quite turn out, but hopefully they were helpful.

This scarf was knit by casting on 20 stitches on a size 10 needle, and knit the whole way through.

Little Boxes

Have you every noticed that when a gift is given in a pretty or clever way, it is much more appreciated? Well, I love giving gifts AND making them pretty, so I was thrilled when Steph showed me how to make these little boxes. They are perfect for giving little gifts!

Several supplies are needed for making this craft:
A card of any size (blank or used, either way is great!)
tape
a ruler
a pencil
scissors

Cut your card in half down the fold in the middle.

Lay your ruler diagonally on the paper. Draw a line against the ruler, in the middle.
Do the same on the other diagonal, so that your marks have made an X. Yes, this step MUST be done. If you skip it, your box will end up very crooked.


Fold every side of your card into the middle of the x, and then unfold it. Every side should be creased now.

Cut the fold on the END of the card down to the fold in the middle. Do this on every side, but be sure to only cut the vertical folds, not the horizontal folds.

Fold the ends that you cut towards each other. Bring the center paper over the overlapped pieces and fold it down over the overlap. Tape in place.
Do the same on the other side.

The bottom of your box is now made. Repeat the whole process with the second half of the card.


The top of the box can be fitted over the bottom. It might be a little snug at first, but it will fit.

These boxes are very versatile. They can be made out of cards, cereal boxes, calendar pages, construction paper, etc. They can be made out of regular printer paper, but they are not very stable.

I hope that my instructions were clear enough, and that you will have fun making them. My 8 year old sister makes them constantly!
